THE 1955 WOODRUFF HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM was not only the first unbeaten team in the school's history, but it was also one of the most powerful squads in local prep grid history. Coached by Virgil Boucher, an earlier inductee into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame, this particular Warriors' team not only won all 10 games it played but gave just one touchdown all season, an opening game 96-yard kickoff return by Frank Finnegan of Spalding in a game won by Woodruff 40-7.

Woodruff blanked all other foes, outscoring its opponents 285-7 for the year. East Peoria gave the Warriors their toughest battle, losing only 7-0. Seven players made the all-City team. On offense Doug Paulson was named at end, Charles Maddock at tackle, Wes Helmick at center, Glenn Sullivan at halfback and Harry Higgs at fullback. Defensively Ray Fauser was selected at end, Mad-dock at center, Higgs and Sullivan at linebacker and Ron Zarley at defensive back.
